Since 2012 the Conference is traditionally held on the basis of Saint-Petersburg mining university every two years. Originally the Conference was devoted to the issues of aerology «Aerology and safety of mining enterprises» and had only three sections: «Aerology of mining enterprises», «Safety of mining enterprises», «Modern safety technologies in coal mining». Taking into consideration the necessity of discussion the issues of safety not only in the mining industry but also in metallurgic and petroleum areas the subject matter of the Conference was extended and the topic was changed.

Every time the conference is attended by chief executives and specialists of the enterprises of the mineral and resource complex, academics and researches of mining higher educational institutions, scientific and research organizations, specialists in the area of the industrial safety and occupational safety and health from Russia, Kazakhstan, Australia, Germany, Spain, Poland, Austria, Indonesia, Ukraine, the representatives of the Federal agencies of executive authorities and the executive authorities of the territorial entities of the Russian Federation, labor organizations, companies which provide services in the area of industrial safety and occupational safety and health.

As the result of the Conference work, a Decision is usually elaborated; the decision is focused on the increase of the safety of operations at the enterprises of the mineral and resource complex and contains the proposals regarding the enhancement of the regulatory framework and the development of the fundamental focus areas of scientific and research studies.
